2004 Kite Extravaganza:

On October 23, 2004, we had 564 kites flying over Long Beach, California in an attempt to break the Guinness world record. We fell short of the 675 kites needed, but are determined to break the record at our next Heartstrings Kite Extravaganza.

Although we didn't break the Guinness record we did succeed in raising awareness for children with heart disease as well as raising close to $40,000 for the event.

At our 2004 event, kites of all sizes and shapes were flown by participants.
Some were homemade simple paper kites with personalized messages to a loved one. Others were ready-made kites that were available at the event. And then there were the Super Kites, works of aerial art made in every imaginable shape, object and character.

Kite flyers, like our kites, came in all varieties as well, representing a true cross section of the community. It was wonderful to see all of the families that came out to participate and have a beautiful, fun day flying kites.
